Die Rohstoffe daf\u00fcr? Direkt aus der Natur! L\u00f6ffel, K\u00e4seschalen, M\u00f6rser oder die typischen Ch\u00e1caras (einheimische Kastagnetten) und viele andere n\u00fctzliche wie dekorative Gegenst\u00e4nde wurden aus Holz gefertigt. Daf\u00fcr nutzte man das Holz der heimischen Laurisilva-B\u00e4ume wie Vi\u00f1\u00e1tigo oder Heidekraut, aber auch importierte Sorten wie Walnuss, Kastanie und Maulbeere.<\/p>\n

Doch nicht nur Holz war gefragt: Aus den Fasern der Bananenstauden entstanden Schn\u00fcre, die zu kunstvollen Blumen, Schmuckk\u00e4stchen, Tischdekorationen oder Brotk\u00f6rben verarbeitet wurden. Auch die St\u00e4ngel der Palme fanden vielf\u00e4ltige Verwendung in der Handwerkskunst. Bei den K\u00f6rben, die in unz\u00e4hligen Formen und Materialien vorkommen, dominieren Weiden- und Rohrflechtarbeiten. An traditionellen Webst\u00fchlen entstehen noch heute Teppiche und Decken aus alten Stoffresten und Baumwollgarn \u2013 ein beeindruckendes Beispiel daf\u00fcr finden Sie im Besucherzentrum Juego de Bolas.<\/p>\n

Ein ganz besonderes Highlight des gomarischen Kunsthandwerks ist die T\u00f6pferei. Sie wird seit der Zeit der Ureinwohner komplett von Hand und ohne T\u00f6pferscheibe gefertigt. Die Materialien \u2013 Ton, Sand und Almagre (ein rotes Mineral) \u2013 stammen aus den Bergen der Inselmitte. Der Herstellungsprozess ist scheinbar einfach, erfordert aber viel Zeit und Hingabe. Nachdem das Gef\u00e4\u00df, sei es eine Kartoffelschale, eine Wasserkaraffe, ein Melkgef\u00e4\u00df oder ein Kohlenbecken, geformt ist, wird es zum Trocknen in einen Holzofen gestellt und gebrannt. Die besondere Technik mit Almagre verleiht den St\u00fccken eine charakteristische hellbraune Farbe, ganz im Gegensatz zu den dunkleren, fast schwarzen T\u00f6pferwaren anderer Inseln. Besonders bekannt f\u00fcr ihr rustikales Aussehen und ihre lange Tradition sind die T\u00f6pferwaren aus Chipude und El Cercado.<\/p>\n

Neben diesen typischen Handwerksformen gibt es auf La Gomera noch viele weitere: H\u00e4keln, Sticken, Kl\u00f6ppeln, Spitzen, Lederarbeiten, Seilkunst, Seidenverarbeitung und Wollarbeiten, um nur einige zu nennen. Die handwerkliche Hochburg der Insel ist die n\u00f6rdliche Region, wobei Vallehermoso die Gemeinde mit den meisten Kunsthandwerkern ist.<\/p>\n

Um das Kunsthandwerk der Insel zu f\u00f6rdern, finden auf den Kanarischen Inseln jedes Jahr verschiedene Handwerksmessen, Folklore-Veranstaltungen und landwirtschaftliche Messen statt. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Inselhandwerksmesse in San Sebasti\u00e1n de la Gomera. Dort treffen sich Kunsthandwerker von La Gomera und dem gesamten Archipel. Begleitet wird die Messe oft von weiteren kulturellen Darbietungen, wie dem Silbo Gomero und Auftritten von Folkloregruppen.<\/p>\n

Das Cabildo (die Inselregierung) unterst\u00fctzt diese Bem\u00fchungen ma\u00dfgeblich: Es koordiniert die Teilnahme an Messen, finanziert Ausstellungsfl\u00e4chen, k\u00fcmmert sich um den Transport der Materialien und sorgt f\u00fcr eine institutionelle Pr\u00e4senz. Das kanarische Kunsthandwerk wird auch auf Tourismusmessen und Fachkonferenzen pr\u00e4sentiert. Oft f\u00fchren Handwerker ihre F\u00e4higkeiten sogar live vor Ort vor \u2013 sei es ein T\u00f6pfer an der Arbeit, jemand, der Holzarbeiten fertigt oder Ristras (Knoblauch- oder Zwiebelz\u00f6pfe) bindet. Ziel ist es, zuk\u00fcnftigen Besuchern diese lebendigen kulturellen Manifestationen als attraktiven Bestandteil des touristischen Angebots n\u00e4herzubringen.
