A lovely green valley that opens out to the sea, protected from the trade winds by steep cliffs – this is the Valle Gran Rey in the south-west of the island of La Gomera. Like a string of pearls, small hamlets with colourful houses in the sun – El Guro, Casa de la Seda, Guadá, Retamal and what they are all called… In the villages and everywhere on the valley floor, magnificent Canary Island date palms with lush crowns, hiking trails lead from the valley to the large plateau of La Mérica or to the mountain villages of Las Hayas and El Cercado.

The main attraction of Valle Gran Rey, however, are the beaches, the fine black sand, the blue, sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean, which don’t get colder than 18 degrees even in winter…

Sheltered in a bay is the main beach, Playa de la Calera, at the other end of the bay is Playa de la Puntilla, behind the next headland is Charco del Conde, a small lagoon with almost no waves (nicknamed ‘Baby Beach’), then the beach of Vueltas right next to the harbour and last but not least the wild Playa Inglés against an impressive, even grandiose backdrop.

In Valle Gran Rey there are numerous accommodations – mainly holiday flats – as well as restaurants and cafés, small shops for strolling and plenty of leisure activities:

Whale and dolphin watching trips, excursions by water taxi, boat trips to Los Organos, a famous basalt formation on the north coast, bicycle and mountain bike hire… You can also book guided hikes here – many kilometres of hiking trails invite you to explore the spectacular nature of this wild little island. After returning home, you can enjoy the seclusion and tranquillity of the small seaside resort and watch the sun sink into the sea.
